Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Summer is here! That means it is time to transfer over to my summer capsule wardrobe. I have been loving my capsule wardrobe! I don’t have to think about getting dressed and I definitely am not having to spend any time trying on something and then throwing it on the floor because it doesn’t quite fit right (something I did a lot before starting my capsule wardrobe). My fear with doing a capsule wardrobe was that I would quickly get bored since I was wearing the same things for 3 months. But you know what? I didn’t!

Summer Capsule Wardrobe 3

Even up to the last day of my third month on my spring capsule, I was still excited about what I had chosen for my capsule wardrobe. I was even sad to see some things go, but at the same time, I was excited to make room for other things!

One thing that I wanted to do before jumping into my summer capsule was to take a moment to sit back, and examine what I had chosen for my spring capsule wardrobe that I ended up not wearing. I noticed that I didn’t really wear any of the white tees and tanks, and I only ended up wearing about half of the bottoms that I chose. So with that I mind, I began planning my summer capsule wardrobe.

Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2

The first thing I did was decided what items I wanted to keep from my spring capsule wardrobe. Then I filled in any missing pieces that I felt I needed. Then I added some fun items!

This time, I was really excited to pull out some of my fun patterned items. For spring I chose mostly plain tees with the color theme of white, gray, and blush pink. I still absolutely love that color scheme, so I did keep those colors but I also added in a few more patterned items as well. I also noticed that I ended up with more dresses this time. I almost took some out, but I know that they are prefect for hot summer days when I want to be comfortable, cool, and still cute; so they stayed!

Because many of the dresses I chose are cami type tops, I also ended up with a few more completer pieces to wear over the small straps. ( I don’t know what to wear under these cami dresses. I don’t like my undergarments to show, so the best thing for me is a vest or a short sleeved cardigan).

I also noticed I have many more tops this time. I took most of the plain white tops out and added some colored tops and a few with fun sayings that I have been loving lately. I also bought a longer pair of shorts so I’m not having to constantly pull them down when I am out running around after my son.

Overall, I am super excited about my capsule wardrobe! Here it is:

Summer Capsule Wardrobe

So, my summer capsule came out to 36 items. That break down to:

  • 9 tees

  • 4 tanks

  • 4 completer pieces

  • 3 maxi dresses

  • 3 knee length dresses

  • 1 maxi skirt

  • 4 shorts

  • 2 pants

  • 6 shoes

As I mentioned before, this is not an exact formula for you to follow; it is just an example. Figure out what works best for you and your needs. Don't stress too much over the numbers. The idea is to simplify your wardrobe. But remember to have fun with it! :)

I am hoping to start sharing a few outfit posts with you all soon. I will be choosing a few of my absolute favorite "momiform" outfits to share, so be on the lookout for those!

  1. This was really inspiring, thank you! I want to start a capsule wardrobe, so I'll check out your how-to post now. I don't want to have to think when I get dressed - but of course I want to look nice too :)

  2. I absolutely loved reading about the reasoning behind the clothes you've chosen for your capsule wardrobe. I myself made my own last Summer and I found it so helpful to refine my wardrobe and define my 'style'.

  6. Haha, that's how I feel every time I look up other's capsule wardrobes. But I actually tried to use a lot of what I had. I only ended up buying 3 items for this capsule! ;)

  11. […] Today, I am styling it for summer with a straw fedora, some small gold bangles, and my favorite fringe sandals. When it is over 100 degrees, there is no way I will be layering anything! But, I am excited to wear it with my jean vest or jacket in the cooler months, or a cardigan with my brown booties, or even with an olive colored vest (still on the lookout for a good one that isn’t too expensive) and leggings. There are so many different possibilities with this tunic and I am so excited to add it to my fall capsule wardrobe. (So be on the lookout, once the weather cools down, to see different ways to style it!) Though, in all honesty, I have already worn it a few times out and about (and received TONS of compliments on it). I just couldn’t wait until fall so I have somewhat just added it to my summer capsule […]
